About a year ago I did the signs for a church that had had a fire. Speaking with the Pastor, the conversation drifted to music, and I explained that I had a record company, Pig Heaven Records and recorded some of the top urban blues players in the Bay area. I played my record and the pastor loved it. He asked me to play for the rededication of the church.
That's where I met Brother Phil Soul. Phil has been playing organ in church since he was 7 years old, he is a unique talent possible one of the best Gospel players around. To be quite honest it was a gift that brought us together, being a Jewish guy from New York playing contemporary gospel was really a challenge and helped put the musical pieces of the puzzle together.
After all, lots of the great players I idolized got their chops playing in church. So I offer to you the soulful & sanctified, that deep heart rhythm blues. LA Parks & Wreaks.
