 | During this interesting evening, Pulitzer Prize nominee Craig MacDonald will speak about "Unsung Women in Seal Beach & California History." He'll also talk about his new book, Gold Rush Glimpses III, which features amazing, original stories on a woman who helped preserve Yosemite and spark the state and national park movement before John Muir had heard of Yosemite; a single mother from Nicaragua who became one of the best miners ever; a woman who voted 52 years before Woman's Suffrage, plus the tales of unknown outlaws and extreme sports.
He'll autograph his acclaimed book, which is a great gift for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, or for anyone who loves history or just wants to be entertained. Don't miss this opportunity to hear stories you'll never forget, from this highly sought after conference and university speaker.

 | This summer we are reading Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. Sarah, a ten year-old girl, is brutally arrested with her family by the French police in the Vel' d'Hiv' roundup, but not before she locks her younger brother in a cupboard in the family's apartment, thinking that she will be back within a few hours. In 2002, journalist Julia Jarmond is asked to write an article about this black day in France's past. Through her contemporary investigation, she stumbles onto a trail of long-hidden family secrets that connect her to Sarah. Julia finds herself compelled to retrace the girl's ordeal, from that terrible term in the Vel d'Hiv', to the camps, and beyond. As she probes into Sarah's past, she begins to question her own place in France, and to reevaluate her marriage and her life.
Come to our book discussion. We welcome new members each month. Join us for an interesting evening.
